Thats 90 Minutes i wont get back :(

Full disclosure.....I like crap movies.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's where crap movies ruled, and believe me I have seen some crap movies.
So many in fact that I do like watching cheesy crap movies now and again.
Sometimes though, a movie is so crap it just isn't fun and it's a chore to watch.
The Happy Time Murders is one such film.

The Happy Time Murders is the story of Phil Phillips. A disgraced ex-cop turned private eye who is hired to find out who is blackmailing Sandra.  Oh and Phil just so happens to be a puppet.
In a world where puppets are real and treated like second class citizens, Phil ends up getting more than he bargained for when his case turns into a murder investigation where the cast of an old 90's sitcom (including Phil's brother) start getting picked off one by one.
Teaming up with his ex partner Phil tries to figure out who is killing the cast and clear his name.

And that is the synopsis of the trainwreck that is The Happy Time Murders.

This had the potential to be something good and different, what it is, is approx 90mins of rubbish.
The first thing wrong with it is Melissa McCarthy.
Unfortunately she just isnt funny. As my mate put it, she is the American equivelent of Miranda Hart. Another unfunny comedienne who had the pleasure of starring in Spy together.
My mate and I just wont usually sit through a Melissa McCarthy movie as we just know it will be crap (and not in a good crap type of way!)
The second thing is that it seems to be a hodge podge of idea's that just dont seem to stick together and it feels all over the place.
Is it suppose to be serious? funny? who knows.
I dont know how many people had a go at the script, but it just didnt work. It felt all over the place.
They needed to stick with a genre not mix and match.
Thats not to say i sat poe faced all the way through it.
There are one or two scenes where i did give a giggle one is the sex scene that is in the trailer, where you will never look at silly string in the same way again, and the other was where Phil repeatedly kicks a guy in the balls.
There is just something funny about a puppet kicking a guy in the balls that made me laugh, however it does go a bit too far that kind of changes the tone of the movie and you then think its no longer funny now they've taken it too far.
There is also a homage to Basic Instinct that raised a giggle, but other than that the film is a dud.

Its a shame really as this movie looked like the sort of film i would enjoy and from the trailer it looked like it could be something funny and special. A puppet flick for adults with a healthy dose of humour.
Its a missed opportunity and a waste of your time.

If you want a puppet movie for adults then stick with Meet the Feebles. The gross out puppet flick from Peter Jackson's pre Lord of the Rings era movies from a time before he went downhill and his movies became rubbish, or you can wach Team America from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Not the same type of puppets but still a funny movie.

So in closing if you want to watch the funny bits from the Happy Time just watch the trailer and save yourself some cash and about an hour and a half of your life.
Dont waste your money on this movie.

Space Vampires the Movie!!!!!

There are movies that are instant hits. These are the Jaws, Star Wars, ET. Jurrasic Park. Widely loved on release and massive box office hits. Then there are the Cult classics. Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, Buckaroo Banzai and many many others. Massive failures at the box office.  Critically slated.  Box Office bombs!!  But throughout the years gained a cult following. New movie lovers being introduced to them via runs on tv, and in some instances if we are lucky companies such as Arrow Video, Shout Factory, 88 Films and others love these movies as much as we do and release them on dvd and Blu Ray so you can watch them time and again in Hi Def. And then sometimes if we are really really lucky. we get to experience them on the big screen. This happened recently to a movie i have a real soft spot for. A cult classic. A movie about a failed mission to Halley's Comet which brings about an apocalyptic event that could be the end of humanity. Thats right. the movie

Beyond the Gates

The other day, i was down at my mate Mug's place for a cheesy movie day. This entailed watching a few cheesy movies and just hanging and having a laugh. The movies watched were: Battle Beyond the Stars starring Richard Thomas (The Waltons), George Peppard (The A-Team) and Sybil Danning (Howling II). The Naked Gun starring Leslie Nielson (Airplane, Due South). Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds (Hooper, Cannonball Run). And we also watched the movie i'm going to discuss.... The low budget 2016 80's style horror movie.... Beyond the Gates. Beyond the Gates is a story of two brothers (Chase Williamson and Graham Skipper) who while packing up their missing father's video store, come across an old video cassette board game (think Atmosphere). They decide to watch the video which is something they will soon regret. This movie was recommended by our mate John, so we sat and gave it a watch. When i was told about this movie, the first thing that poppe
